In-Home Services

BHIS

Behavioral Health Intervention Service (BHIS) is a voluntary service available to children and their family who have a mental health diagnosis and behavioral symptoms that are interfering with daily life. BHIS is designed to be the behavioral complement to therapy services. BHIS addresses skill deficits that, if improved upon, will increase the person’s ability to function successfully at home and in the community. These skills can include, but are not limited to: social skills, communication skills, decision making skills, anger management and coping skills.

To access BHIS, or to find out if you are eligible, please contact Rebecca Spiess at rspiess@nbcsiowa.com or call the NBCS office at 515.401.6886.

What does BHIS entail?

  • An assessment is completed by the child’s current therapist or may be completed with a therapist at New Beginnings upon request. A BHIS treatment plan will be created to meet the needs of the child and the family. The therapist will submit an authorization request for services to the child’s Medicaid provider.

  • After authorization of services is granted, the BHIS provider will come to your home to meet for individual and family sessions based upon the BHIS treatment plan.

Habilitation

Habilitation services consist of individualized services and supports that assist with acquisition, retention, or improvement in skills related to living independently in the community. Habilitation service plans are based on current functioning level and are designed to foster the acquisition of daily life skills, social skills, greater independence and personal choice.

Habilitation services are provided in collaboration with case management services within Polk, Dallas, Warren and Madison counties through Broadlawns Medical Center and Eyerly Ball.
