Jason Hunt, LISW

Jason is a licensed independent social worker who is dedicated to providing compassionate support, cultivating a safe, non-judgmental space, facilitating personal growth, and fostering resilience through evidence-based practices, empathy, and a collaborative, client-centered approach. He earned his Master’s degree in social work from the University of Iowa, and received his Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Northeastern Illinois University, where he also minored in sociology.

Previously, Jason has worked as a clinical therapist in the community based setting, as a substance abuse counselor, and as a school based therapist in the Des Moines metro area. Jason utilizes a strengths based, empowerment approach that incorporates many treatment modalities that include the person-centered approach, the trauma informed perspective, mindfulness therapy, positive psychology, harm reduction, and acceptance and commitment therapy. He also utilizes attachment theory when working with couples and relationships and existential psychology when addressing how to live life with meaning and purpose.

Jason is comfortable and experienced in working with a wide range of diagnoses that include anxiety, depression, substance abuse, borderline personality, and PTSD, as well as a range of populations, such as teens, adults, couples, and families. Jason also enjoys working in the group setting and intends to start an anger management and co-occurring disorders group independently here at New Beginnings, as well as a STEPPS and STAIRWAYS group in April of 2024 with cofacilitator Samantha Fernandez, LMHC.
